The most common and disabling mental health problems are depression, anxiety and psychotic disorders. In any one year about one in five adult Australians will experience a mental health problem. The stigma that once surrounded mental health disorders has been greatly reduced. This is because we have a better understanding of the human brain and also because we recognise that life today is more stressful and complex than ever before. Many people suffer a mental illness for a long time before they seek help.
Getting the help you need is the first step.
